How to use the tracker

An American Mahjong set has 152 tiles. As the game goes on, you see more of them: your own rack, the discards and any exposed groups. Tap each one as you see it, and the tracker shows how many copies of every tile are still unseen, plus the chance that your next draw is that tile.

The odds are a guide. Tiles in other players’ racks are hidden from you, so they count as unseen, and the real wall is a little smaller than the unseen pile. Knowing which tiles are gone still helps you decide what to chase and what to let go. See our guide to the tiles, our note on how many tiles are in a set and our defense strategy guide.

Tile tracker questions

What counts as a seen tile?

Every tile you can see: the tiles on your own rack, every discard, and every tile in an exposed group, including exposed Jokers. Tap a tile once for each copy you see.

How many tiles are in an American Mahjong set?

There are 152 tiles: 108 suit tiles (Bams, Craks and Dots, four of each number), 16 winds, 12 dragons, 8 flowers and 8 Jokers.

What does the percentage mean?

It is the chance that the next tile you draw from the wall is that tile, out of all the tiles you have not seen. Tiles in other players’ racks count as unseen, so it is an estimate, not a promise.

Why are flowers counted as one tile?

Flowers are interchangeable in hands, so the tracker keeps one count of eight flowers instead of splitting them by design.

Is my game saved?

Yes, in your own browser on this device. Nothing is sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes it, and the Reset button clears it at any time.

Can I use this during a game?

Check your table’s rules first. Many in-person tables do not allow phones during play, and online platforms often do not allow outside tools. It works well for practice and for reviewing a game afterwards.

How do I get the odds for a hand, not just one tile?

Use the Probability Calculator. Enter how many copies of the tile you need are left and how many draws you expect, and it works out the chance of getting it.

Does the tracker know which hands I can make?

No. It only counts tiles. It does not read or include the NMJL card, so it works with whichever card your table plays.
